FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | GLATIGNY FARMHOUSE

FAQs

  • What is the best way to travel to Glatigny Farmhouse?

If travelling from the UK:

The best way to travel to Glatigny Farmhouse would be by ferry. Having ones own car (that can be packaged as full as you can manage!) in the area is often nicer than hiring one. The closest ferry port is Cherbourg (only a 40 minute drive the French side), but Caen is also close (1.15 hours) and the overnight crossing is a good one.

(The Caen ferries are also larger so have a number of restaurants, bars, cinemas and games rooms on-board).

A cheap ferry is often the Newhaven - Dieppe crossing, but it is over a 3 hour drive on the French side.

Both the Dover to Calais ferry crossings and the Eurotunnel are options too with lots of crossings at reasonable prices; however the journey on the French side is around 4 and a half hours. If you decide to take this route, we'd recommend stopping in Rouen on the way - it's around 2 hours in and is a beautiful yet stylish city with lots of great places to eat, shop and explore.

If you choose to travel with 'Brittany Ferries' we can give you one of our guest passes, that will give you a 10% discount.

(The website/app 'AFerry' is a very good tool for comparing many ferry options in one go).

Flying to Glatigny Farmhouse:

The local airports nearby are Dinard-Pleurtuit–Saint-Malo and Carpiquet-Caen. However our recommendation would be to fly into Paris and either hire a car there and drive down or get the train to Cherbourg (only 2.5 hours) and hire a car from there.

Airport, ferry and station transfers can be arranged (as well as a personal chauffeur for your whole stay): to see our full options, click here.

  • Who are you & do you live at Glatigny Farmhouse?

We are Samuel & Francesca Acford and unfortunately we do not live at Glatigny Farmhouse! We fell in love with the area a number of years ago and embarked on the challenge of restoring (what was then) a ruinous French Farmhouse into a luxury holiday home. You can see our full renovation journey here. It was a lot of work to restore this beautiful property, but it has been so worth it! We get the joy of sharing it with others, helping them make their own special memories here, as well as being able to enjoy it ourselves from time to time. For us, this isn't just another holiday rental; it truly is somewhere we have put our heart and soul into and it's a very special place! We hope you love it too!

  • Can we hire bicycles locally?

We do provide a selection of bicycles (some for adults and children, with a baby seat and child bicycle trailer too) free of charge at Glatigny Farmhouse for your enjoyment, as the area is so enjoyable for cycling.

However, please note that it is not possible for us to service all the bicycles after every departure and we have sadly found that not all guests leave the bicycles as they have found them, so we can't guarantee the condition of these bicycles (although we do leave a full selection of bicycle tools and spare inner tubes, puncture repairs kits, etc).

Therefore, we have also detailed a few places locally where you can hire bicycles (details here).
